Mandelson leather shoe proposals represent middle ground among Member States; Commission to make formal decision next week.
Following a second exchange of views with Member States today in the Anti-dumping Committee, the European Trade Commissioner is now in a position to recommend to the European Commission that it adopts his proposals for provisional measures in response to evidence of dumping of Chinese and Vietnamese shoes.
The College will adopt a formal decision on measures on March 22.
In today's meeting Member States expressed a wide range of views, both in favour of stronger provisional measures and in favour of more restricted action.
The Commissioner's proposals represented a middle ground.
The Commission will continue its investigation and will establish a consensus among Member States on a definitive course of action when the investigation is concluded in the autumn.
