In a fresh development on EU – Vietnam trade relationship, Clarks, the biggest retailer and maker of shoes in UK has censured European Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson's decision to impose tariffs on Vietnamese and Chinese shoes imported in to the EU.
Clarks has developed business relations with China and Vietnam for the past decade, and this relationship is under threat, said Martin Salisbury, Financial Manager, Clarks.
Effect of this decision will find Chinese shoes levied tariffs up to 19.4 percent and 16.8 percent for Vietnamese shoes by September to push up shoes prices in Europe.
Clarks makes 25 million pairs a year for the UK and the European market; 60 percent of which come from Vietnam and China, Salisbury added.
