Leather & fur product exports rise over 19%

National Development and Reform Commission revealed that leather, fur and related product exports grew over 19.3 percent to touch US $32.71 billion in 2005.

Leather footwear exports accounted for almost $17.11 billion representing a24 percent rise whereas exports of leather bags and cases registered a 17 percent growth to reach $7.31 billion.

Country's production of leather shoes and bags was also up 19 percent and 14 percent respectively.

China exported almost $1.87 billion worth of leather and fur garments, a 40 percent increase over 2004.

However, the output of these garments rose only three percent.

About 23 Chinese leather producers have been granted the power to use the eco-genuine-leather mark by the end of 2005.
