Levi's is sourcing and continuing investing at fast pace, from and in Turkey for two reasons says Levi's Eurasia Supply Chain Director Kazim Yiyener.
They are, first Turkey is not as expensive as Europe and second and more importantly; it produces “goods with premium quality.”
All are approaching Far East due to cost advantages, however, as the name suggest, the Far East is far, according to Yiyener!
Besides geographical advantage, Turkey has significant technical know-how and infrastrcuture as it has deep roots being involved in textile for years.
Though Far Eastern countries provide economic incentives, it would take a lot more time for them to reach the level that Turkey offers.
Kazim Yiyener stated that: Turkish denim sector can easily sell products in neighbouring markets like Russia, Hungary and Poland.
Immense marketing success in Russia reinformces what is in store for Turkey's textile and garment sector.
While competing in foreign markets, one of the fundemantal factors challenging Turkish denim manufacturers is the Euro/YTL or Dollar/YTL exchange rate, which has a huge bearing on costs.
Nevertheless offering customers high quality products, and prompt delivery are still considered major advantages for the Turkish denim sector.
The Levi's manufacturing relationship with Turkey began in 1987. For nearly 16 years, Levi's have been manufacturing in own factory in Turkey.
Atpresent Levi's factory manufactures about 3,500,000 pairs of jeans annually and export 60 percent of it while the rest 40 percent in sold in the domestic markets.
