Footwear exports turnover of Thailand in April 2006 reached 2.41 billion Baht (US $63.93 million), witnessing a slight decrease of 3.9 percent in comparison with the same period 2005, according to Statistical Department, Thailand.

First four months of 2006 recorded exports revenue of 11.42 billion Baht ($302.24 million), a year-on-year increase of 1.86 percent.

EU is top footwear importer from Thailand and expected to rise sharply in years to come.

EU this year, during January-April period imported footwear worth 4.13 billion Baht from Thailand, recording a growth of 4.85 percent compared to the same period, 2005.

However, exports turnover from Canada, the US and Japan witnessed steep slump.

Leather capped shoes, knitting capped shoes and plastic shoes are three major goods of Thailand for exports.

From January to April 2006, exports revenue of those goods is 6.87, 1.042 and 3 billion Baht, respectively.

Thailand's leather capped shoes exports have been gaining better results mainly due to EU's anti-dumping duty on China and Vietnam.
