Shoe makers of Shenzhen are vigorously trying to cash on the current duty levels applicable till October as EU plans to raise anti-dumping duties to 19.4 percent from then.

A final decision to this effect will be out by October 6, 2006, sources say

At present, footwear enterprises of Shenzhen city are exporting as much as they can to cater to present export committments. It is also reported that in the first five months this year, shoe exports from Shenzhen city to Holland earning US $31.32 million, which is 77.32 percent more than that during the same period last year.

Exports to England also went up 30.72 percent compared to last year's export statistics.

However, industry insiders view that once the anti-dumping duties reached 19.4 percent, it would be very difficult for leather industry to sustain exports to EU as it will squeeze their margin to almost nil.

Therefore, the shoemaking enterprises of Shenzhen city will have to adjust their production structure and work out fresh marketing strategies fast.
