Vietnamese Ministry of Trade (MOT) recently proposed three measures that would help footwear industry in reaching target of US $3.5 billion exports turnover in 2006, regardless of various problems created by EC anti–dumping lawsuit.

These three measures are:

(i) To accelerate exports to the giant US and other potential markets.

(ii) To change product categories that are beyond the purview of EC lawsuit.

(iii) To develop collaborations among local enterprises to attract and fulfill large orders and contracts for higher profits.

MOT statistics reveal that in the first six months of this year, footwear industry earned $1.7 billion from exports, accomplishing 50 percent of 2006 target, representing year–on–year rise of 20.3 percent.
