Vietnam has strongly denied the charges of shoes dumping in the European Market and has appealed the European Commission (EC) to reconsider the imposition of temporary anti-dumping duty against the shoe industry.
Le Dung, Foreign Ministry's spokesman, said that the anti-dumping duty was hurting the Vietnamese since shoe industry was very important for the socio-economic development of the nation.
He alleged that anti-dumping tariffs proposed by the EC are against the spirit of the trade liberalization policy of which EC itself is a strong advocate. He blamed the incompetent European shoemakers, whose vested interests were served by this move.
Dung informed that EC's proposal had already been put aside by the most of member countries of EU (EU) in July.
He requested EC to keep in mind factors like growing trade relations between them, the momentum of Vietnam's economic growth and the interests of EU investors in Vietnam's footwear industry before deciding anti-dumping duty.
