Following the withdrawal of complaint by the European Confederation of the Footwear Industry (ECFI), the European Union (EU) Trade Commission has withdrawn anti-dumping charges covering the imports of Chinese footwear with protective toecaps.

The charges were processed after ECFI complained in May, 2005 with evidence of dumping in imports of protective footwear.

On the request of China Alliance, an association of more than 150 shoemakers, EU Trade Commission held a hearing but it was not known why the ECFI withdrew its complaint.

EU has started levying charges on Chinese leather shoes since April, 07 in a phased manner, which is scheduled to reach 19.4 percent over a period of six months.
