Chairman of Export Development Board [EDB] Sri Lanka, Bryan Agunawala has informed that fourteen local shoe manufacturers including six Small and Medium Enterprises were to visit France and many other EU nations to promote their products.
Agunawala said that delegation would try to push for joint venture and sub-contracts from the EU buyers.
EDB intends to organize factory visits, arrange one to one meeting with the buyers and shoe manufacturers who are based in EU to fetch new orders.
He stressed that Italy was one of the most important places for local manufacturers among the EU nations as they could join their Italian counterparts in supplying footwear parts for their local industry.
Local footwear manufacturers grossed Rs500 million from exports and during the first half of the year they are expected to earn around Rs600 million.
Meanwhile, worried over the influx of Chinese products in local market, manufacturers have urged the Government to take urgent steps to stop the import to save the local units as a number of companies have already closed down and others are planning to follow soon.
