In the coming 10 years China is expected to be in need of 250,000-300,000 shoe designers, according to a recent survey of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security.

Shoe manufacturing is the leading industry in China's light industries as shoe products play an important role in foreign trade.

China exported 6.9 billion pair of shoes to all parts around the world in 2005, earning US $19 billion.

Shoe making companies flourish along Zhujiang River and Yangtze River. With income increasing, people's living standards climb higher, and consuming demand keeps expanding, so more shoe designers are required for domestic shoe market.

Shoe designer is a permanent profession among the seventh batch of new occupations recently declared by the ministry.
