79 new garment companies opened in Jan-Aug in Cambodia

Seventy nine garment companies are part of 1,188 new enterprises that started operating in Cambodia in the first eight months this year, employing nearly 60,000, according to a recent report by the ministry of labour and vocational training.

The garment companies created nearly 33,000 jobs. The 1,109 new non-garment enterprises generated more than 20,000 jobs.

There were over 17,600 registered factories in Cambodia as of September this year with nearly 1.5 million employed workers, according to an official release.

Those producing textiles, garments, footwear, travel products and bags numbered 1,337.
