The first integrated apparel manufacturing park in Tamil Nadu’s Erode district, called ‘Gobi Apparel Park, will come up at Kolapalur village in Gobichettipalayam. With a cost of ₹ 106.58 crore, it is expected to provide jobs to 7,000. Funded by the textiles ministry under the state Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (SITP), it can host 12 companies.

A company opened office there early this week, according to a report in a top English-language daily.

The park would have effluent and sewage treatment plants, uninterrupted power supply and wide roads, apart from a quality testing centre, a skill development centre and accommodation facility for 3,000 workers.

There will also be a sports ground, an old age home and a community hall. Around 2,500 people would be trained in the park every year. (DS)
