The Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) and Texas Clothing Limited have signed an agreement under which Texas will be investing $8.5 million to set up a garments manufacturing plant in the Uttara Export Processing Zone (UEPZ). Established in September 2001, UEPZ is located at Nilphamari of Rangpur division in Bangladesh’s north Bengal.

The new plant is expected to produce seven million pieces of different garment items like denim pants, twill pants, jackets, and woven jackets and pants. This move will generate job opportunities for around 1,450 people, according to reports in the Bangladesh media.

Ali Reza Mazid, member (investment promotion) BEPZA and Md. Forhad Hossan, managing director of Texas Clothing, inked the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations. BEPZA executive chairman Major General Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman was present on the occasion.
