Strategic location, modern factory facilities and proximity to the port of Djibouti have attracted foreign textile and apparel manufacturers to the recently-inaugurated Kombolcha Industrial Park in Ethiopia and its nine sheds spread over 75 hectares are close to be fully occupied by such companies, according to the Ethiopian Investment Commission.

The companies are training employees both at home and abroad now and will start production in the near future, said public relations directorate director with the commission Mekonnen Hailu.

The park will create job opportunities for over 20,000 and scopes for technology transfer are imminent, which is an additional benefit to the nation, an Ethiopian newspaper report quoted Hailu as saying.

The park is situated at a junction equidistant from major Ethiopian cities that makes it an ideal destination to distribute manufactured products to the domestic market, he added. (DS)
