Last year, China’s domestic consumption of swimsuits was about 200 million, i.e. about 20 percent of the world’s overall swimsuit consumption.

Swimsuit consumption in China is likely to grow at enormous pace during the next decade and is likely to achieve largest growth rate among various sub-sectors in China’s apparel industry.

In recent years, there has been an explosive growth in production and sales of swimsuits in China, due to increase in sports and leisure wear sales following continuous growth in China’s economy.

At present, there are three swimwear production bases in China – one each at Liaoning’s Xincheng, Fujian’s Jinjiang, and Zhejiang’s Yiwu. These three manufacturing hubs together employ around 200,000 people.

The annual swimsuit production from these three production centres is about 420 million pieces, accounting for 39.7 percent of total global swimsuit output.

According to industry analysts, swimsuit consumption in China has not yet reached one swimsuit per capita, seeing that the country consumes only 200 million pieces for a population of 1.3 billion.

Hence, they expect substantial growth in China’s swimsuit consumption over the next decade.
