Speaking to fibre2fashion, first vice-president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), Mr. Nasir Uddin Chowdhury said, “Bangladesh clothing exporters are facing tough situation now, since continuous strikes called by various political parties are delaying the exports to the various destinations.”
“Several clothing manufacturers are reluctant about exports since the strikes have hampered our production and productivity. It is creating a negative impact on the country’s economy,” he adds.
Mr. Abdus Salam Murshedy, president of Exporters Association of Bangladesh, says, “The apparel manufacturers are not able to import fabrics including cotton and man-made fabrics from countries such as India and China due to the strikes in Bangladesh.”
He concurs with Mr. Chowdhury on the impact of strikes on Bangladesh economy. He opines, “The strikes could create a negative impact on the country’s economy.”
“We urge the various political parties to save the country’s economy by seeking different ways of protest which would not affect the production and trade of apparel products,” he adds.
