As revealed by the Dehiwala Mount Lavinia Municipal Council Health Unit, it has temporarily revoked the trade licence of a garment unit for the reasons of hygiene.

It was elucidated that, Ratanmalana garment factory which was administered by daughter of a Deputy Inspector General of Police, was illicitly discharging the waste water from the factory in a nearby canal.

One of the health unit officials here divulged that, even prior to this too, severe warnings were issued to the factory, but then either owing to the intercession by several officials or due to pressure from the side of legislators, the licence was not retracted then.

He further stated that, at this point of time, as a programme for eradicating dengue is going on, no licences will be issued to any of the textile factories which do not meet with the required health standards.
