Government won't be interrupting the garment workers preparing for a week long nation-wide strike, provided they do not go against law, a government spokesperson said. The strike to be observed would be the biggest in the history of Cambodia.

Khieu Sopheak, Ministry of Interior's spokesperson said that, the workers were acting within the ambit of their right to strike and thus the Ministry has assured that it won't be interfering unless they breach the government rules or any other laws.

Till the workers refrain from breaking any law, they will not deploy any police or authorities at the factory, but if they breach any of the government rules, indulge in violence or cause damage to factory's property, then they would have to take steps, Sopheak said.

The number of workers who would join the strike called by the Cambodian Labour Confederation is not certain however, the Confederation claims it has 60,000 members.
