According to Sivagnana Sothi – the Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Ministry Secretary, steps are being taken to establish four apparel units in Achchuweli, Jaffna, which will cost US $12 million.
He added that, 4000 jobless youths in Jaffna, will get employment after these three apparel units are set up. A committee has been instituted, to review the feasibility of establishing garment units in Achchuweli.
Sothi also commented that the Sri Lankan government has initiated a number of development schemes in the Northern Province under the "Uthuru Wasanthaya" program.
