Centro Industrial Manufacturero El Roble (Cimer), producers of international brands like Levi and Dockers, announced that it would slowly close down its Costa Rica plant in December and January. The closure is likely to render around 230 of its employees jobless.

The firm situated in the Parque Industrial Cartago did not disclose the reasons responsible for this closure.

However, the Asociación de Exportadores de la Industria Textil (Aneit) workers union stated that, majority of workers would find jobs in other companies in the same locality. A new bed cover manufacturer, which is likely to commence its operations soon, will also employ some of the workers.

Also, Cimer is going to pay one month's salary as retrenchment allowance to its workers, along with a credit of ¢25.000 which they can use to purchase commodities from the plant.
