PRC firm starts building garment park in Hawassa

China’s SINOMA Engineering recently started building a new garment industrial park in Hawassa town, the regional capital of the new Sidama regional state in Ethiopia. It has been hired by the Hawassa Textile and Industrial Park S.C. SINOMA has built the Dangote Cement factory and was involved in the development of the Hawassa and Dire Dawa industrial parks.

The garment park, whose corner stone was laid on September 6, will have 14 shades each lying on 11,000 square metres. Itwill host will have banks, telecommunication and customs offices. Its total cost is estimated at 2 billion birr. The construction is expected to be completed in less than a year, according to an Ethiopian media report.

Ninety per cent of the products manufactured in the industrial park will be exported and it will create 30,000 jobs.
