An all new apparel collection designed using the innovative one-piece stretch fabric called DEN/IM was showcased at the recent Munich Fabric Start. To develop the stretch indigo denim concept, four leading companies—Santoni, Unitin, Lenzing and Tonello—collaborated. This knit denim product concept is apt for designing chic and trendy athleisure wear.

For making DEN/IM, Unitin produced indigo yarns, Lenzing offered high-performance Tencel fibres, while Tonello technologies were used for finishing it like denim. Santoni developed a complete look capsule collection featuring comfortable and sporty denim items such as jackets, knitwear, shoes and more using the DEN/IM fabric.

“We are always looking to the future when thinking about embedding Tencel fibre further into the denim market. Having previously worked with Unitin indigo yarns on a flat-bed knit project and knowing the innovative garment processing developments Tonello have brought to the market, the decision to work on such a project was an easy one,” said Michael Kininmonth, business development manager, Lenzing.

Special attention was also paid to the environmental aspects. Santoni used fewer machines in the production flow chart to keep a check on energy consumption, cut costs and shorten the production process.

“This indigo-based concept, not seen previously on seamless garments, fits perfectly into this rapidly evolving life-style concept,” said Patrick Silva, marketing manager, Santoni. (KD)
