The Moon Parka prototype created using Qmonos, a synthetic spider silk material created by Spiber, was unveiled by The North Face Japan in the US. It is the first commercial apparel to be produced using the sustainable fibre, which is a biomaterial made of recombinant spider silk protein. The Moon Parka was first introduced in Japan last year.

The Moon Parka boasts The North Face Antarctica Parka’s design and has a luminescent sheen due to the undyed colour of the golden orb-weaver’s silk called ‘moon gold’ by Spiber. After being displayed at several North Face stores in Japan, the prototype arrived in the US and will be showcased at the North Face global flagship store in New York City for a limited period of time.

“The Moon Parka signals the beginning of a new paradigm in sports apparel, combining the brand strength of The North Face with Spiber’s Qmonos, the world’s first successfully-produced synthetic spider silk material. The moon is the most remote and extreme environment upon which man has set foot, and the Moon Parka expresses the strong determination and spirit needed to explore locations even more extreme than the Antarctic, as well as the limitless possibilities this project holds,” says Spiber.

The North Face also launched the Unlimited North Face Japan collection, which will be available at the flagship store in New York as well as at the store in San Francisco. This range includes jackets, tops, bottoms, vests, footwear, accessories and more. (KD)
