Companhia Providência unveils its second plant at the Pouso Alegre (MG) unit, with a production capacity of 20 thousand tons of nonwovens/year to meet domestic market demand mainly in the disposable hygienic and medical products sector. Investment in the new plant was US$ 63 million.
Leader in the manufacture and commercialization of nonwovens in Brazil, with a significant presence in the Americas and operating globally, Companhia Providência sees this investment as a means of bolstering its operations in South America. “By the end of 2012, the region will account for more than 70% of the Company's production capacity”, Hermínio de Freitas, CEO remarks.Companhia Providência unveils its second plant at the Pouso Alegre (MG) unit, with a production capacity of 20 thousand tons of nonwovens/year to meet domestic market demand mainly in the disposable #
The nonwovens sector in Brazil has grown by an average of 10% over the past five years as opposed to an average of less than 5% for the domestic economy as a while over the same period, the CEO explains.
“We chose Pouso Alegre because it is a site which is logistically well placed to receive raw materials and rapidly meet the needs of our customers. As well as having the advantage of already operating in the region we also have access to a local reservoir of experienced labor”, says the CEO. Currently, the Company has 62 employees in the region and with the new plant a further 30 direct jobs will be created.
North American expansion
Last year, Companhia Providência opened its first factory outside Brazil in Statesville, North Carolina (USA). A total of approximately US$ 80 million was injected into these installations, the Company's eleventh production line.
Forecasts for 2012 are to install a further machine, thus ramping up our US production to 40 thousand tons/year. The first line has already reached a record output following conclusion of the necessary technical fine tuning preliminary to the equipment becoming fully functional.
