Nonwovens fabrics producer, Ahlstrom will begin negotiating with employee representatives to start the process of lay-offs of employees at its Karhula plant in Finland from February 16, 2015.

The nonwovens producer has initiated the lay-off program to adjust its production capacity and costs to the weakened market demand for building materials.
Karhula plant is part of Ahlstrom's Building and Energy business segment and produces glass fibre tissue used in building materials such as flooring applications.
The plant employs approximately 80 people, of which 43 are blue collar employees and Ahlstrom expects negotiations to be completed by the end of March 2015.
Ahlstrom is a high performance fibre based materials company and its materials are used in everyday applications like filters, medical fabrics, life science and diagnostics, wallcoverings and food packaging.
In 2014, Ahlstrom's net sales from continuing operations amounted to €1 billion and its 3,400 employees serve customers in 23 countries. (AR)
