The price of nylon chips, used for manufacturing textile grade yarns, decreased to US$ 2680/ton CIF China in the last fortnight ending October 15, 2013, down 1.56 percent compared to price of US$ 2720/ton seen during the first fortnight of October 2012.

On a fortnight-to-fortnight basis, however, nylon chips price increased by 0.28 percent from US$ 2670/ton recorded in fortnight ending September 30 to US$ 2680/ton during the fortnight ending October 15.

During the first half of last fortnight ending October 15, selling offers for high speed spinning semi dull textile grade nylon chips were in the range of RMB 20,400/ton to RMB 20,500/ton. In the early first half, demand from the downstream was relatively weak due to National Day holidays in China.

By the end of the second half of the last fortnight, nylon chips prices surged marginally and were assessed in the range of RMB 20500/ton to RMB 20550/ton, as few of the nylon chips producers cut down their plant operational rates.

In the Chinese market, the prices of nylon chips imported from Taiwanese port were offered at around US$ 2680/ton in the first half of the last fortnight, but it was hard to find any buyer at such a high level. In the second half, prices increased and were in the range of US$ 2695/ton to US$ 2700/ton, but there were no buyers.

In the short-term, nylon chips market is expected to remain stable-to-firm as several manufacturers have reduced their plant operational rates.
