  • Worley has completed the FEED phase for Alfanar's Lighthouse Green Fuels project in Teesside, UK, advancing one of the world's largest sustainable aviation fuel facilities towards execution.
  • The project is expected to produce 180 million litres of SAF and 30 million litres of renewable naphtha annually.
  • Final investment decision is targeted by end-2027, with operations planned for 2032.
Worley has completed the Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) for Alfanar’s Lighthouse Green Fuels (LGF) Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) project in Teesside, UK.

The completion of FEED marks a significant milestone in the development of the project, establishing LGF as the first project in Europe to reach this level of engineering maturity and moving the development from concept into a technically defined, execution-ready development.

Expected to become one of the world’s largest SAF facilities of its kind and the UK’s first new commercial-scale refinery since the 1960s, LGF will produce SAF and renewable naphtha from sustainably sourced biomass feedstocks, including forestry and agricultural residues.

As FEED delivery partner, Worley provided an integrated engineering solution for the facility, covering feedstock handling, gasification, Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, utilities, storage infrastructure, and potential integration with Teesside’s emerging carbon capture and storage (CCS) network.

Completion of FEED confirms the technical integration and engineering configuration for the facility while providing greater certainty around project scope, cost and delivery strategy ahead of Final Investment Decision (FID) which Alfanar is targeting at the end of 2027 ahead of expected commercial operations in 2032.

“Completing FEED is a defining milestone for Lighthouse Green Fuels and a major step forward not just for the project but for the UK SAF industry more broadly,” said Noaman Al Adhami, UK Country Head at Alfanar.

The FEED phase is expected to reduce project risk and improve cost, schedule, and execution certainty ahead of the FID.

Once operational, the facility is expected to produce 180 million liters of sustainable aviation fuel and 30 million liters of renewable naphtha annually.

“Completing FEED for the Lighthouse Green Fuels project is a defining step in advancing Alfanar’s flagship SAF development toward execution,” said Hicham Kabbaj, Worley President, Global Operations – EMEA. “It demonstrates Worley’s ability to translate early-stage vision into a clear, deliverable pathway that enables complex, sustainable projects to progress with confidence.”

Worley’s team in the UK carried out the FEED work with support from the company’s Global Integrated Delivery (GID) experts in India.
