Zagros Petrochemical Company and China’s Dalian Petrochemical Company have inked the deal that will give Iran its first methanol-to-synthetic ethanol conversion plant. The technical know-how transfer agreement between the two companies details that the conversion plant will have a production capacity of 300,000 tons.

“With the signing of this contract, the first 300,000-ton plant for converting methanol to synthetic ethanol in the country will come on stream within 36 months, and Zagros Petrochemical Company will take a major step to complete the value chain and move towards converting methanol to synthetic ethanol for the first time in the country’s petrochemical industry,” Matin Didari, CEO of Zagros Petrochemical Company, was quoted as saying by several media reports at the signing ceremony of the technical know-how transfer agreement.

One of the world’s leading methanol producers, Zagros Petrochemical Company, plans to complete methanol’s downstream chain and create value-add for the chemical through the project. Moreover, synthetic ethanol is also used as a raw material in viscose.
