The Lake Charles US gas cracker facility owned by Indorama Ventures Ltd (IVL) has received an air permit, which will help the company in maintaining the plant's startup schedule. The air permit is the main environmental permit required, which can help Indorama start repair and construction activities at the site a month before the target date.

The ethylene that will be produced from the cracker will be used as a raw material to produce MEG that will in turn be used to produce PET.

According to the company, when the plant begins commercial production, Indorama Ventures will become the most vertically integrated PET producer in North America.

“In June, the project received a water permit which allows discharging liquid effluent through its waste-water treatment plant, while de-bottlenecking-related works have been completed,” Indorama said.

“Mechanical completion of the refurbished plant is expected to finish in the third quarter of 2017, which will be followed by commissioning and startup in the fourth quarter of 2017,” it added. (AR)
