JV ethylene cracker of OxyChem & Mexichem begins operations

The joint venture between Occidental Chemical Corporation (OxyChem) and Mexichem, Ingleside Ethylene, LLC has begun operations on schedule and within budget. The Ingleside ethylene cracker which is currently in a production stabilisation phase will be managed by OxyChem and has the capacity to produce 550,000 metric tons of ethylene per annum.

The new cracker is expected to provide OxyChem with an ongoing source of ethylene for manufacturing vinyl chloride monomer (VCM), which Mexichem will use to produce polyvinyl chloride (PVC resin).

The project also includes a pipeline and storage facility at Markham, Texas, while investment in the project was around 1.5 billion and will employ 150 people.

Construction on the ethylene cracker began in the second quarter of 2014, the engineering and construction contract for which was awarded to CB&I. (AR)
