Kazakhstan is planning to invest in setting up a purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant at the cost of US$ 450 million in the Belarusian town of Mogilev.

The existing location of OAO Mogilevkhimvolokno is being considered for setting up the petrochemical plant, Mr. Mikhail Rusyi, Vice Premier of Belarus, told reporters last month.

The PTA plant will use Kazakh paraxylene as raw material, according to the official, who is also the co-chairman of the Belarusian-Kazakh Commission for Cooperation.

Highly qualified specialists work for Mogilevkhimvolokno, while Kazakhstan has paraxylene needed for the production of PTA, which has good demand in international market, he said.

Moreover, because of its geographical location, Belarus has an advantage of being close to potential markets, he added.
