The Taiwan-based Oriental Union Chemical Corporation (OUCC) is operating its monoethylene glycol (MEG) plant, located at Lin Yuan, at 70 percent of its production capacity.

“The plant is operating at 70 percent capacity due to bad market conditions,” a company official told fibre2fashion.

“We would try to increase plant operating rate, but it will take another year,” the official added.

OUCC has no maintenance schedule this year for the plant, which has a production capacity of 250,000 mt/year.

Founded in 1975, OUCC is a major supplier of ethylene glycol and ethylene oxide derivatives in Taiwan and throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

MEG is used as a raw material in the production of polyester fibre.
