Taiwan-based Formosa Chemicals & Fibre Corporation has shut its No. 3 purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant for maintenance turnaround this month.

“The plant is likely to remain off-steam for around three weeks,” a company official told fibre2fashion.

The plant, located at Loong-der, has total production capacity of 700,000 mt/year.

Formosa Chemicals, a part of the Formosa Plastics Group, is one of the biggest PTA producers in Asia.

In addition to Loong-der, the company also has PTA production lines at Mailiao on the western coast of Taiwan and at Ningbo in China.

PTA is a raw material used in the production of polyester.
