Asian propylene prices show rising trend in August

In Korean market, propylene prices increased during the first week of August 2013, and prices were assessed in the range of US$ 1335-1340/ton during the week ending August 7.
 
During the fortnight ending July 31, propylene prices in Korea showed a downward trend and declined by 2 percent compared to fortnight ending July 15 to US$ 1325-1330/ton, due to softer downstream demand and ease of availability.
 
From August 1-7, propylene prices in Japan also showed a rising trend and were assessed in the range of US$ 1325-1330/ton. During the fortnight of July 16-31, propylene prices in Japan declined by 1 percent compared to earlier fortnight and average prices were assessed at US$ 1315-1320/ton.
 
In Europe, propylene prices were in the range of € 985-1045/ton during the week ending August 7. During the fortnight ending July 31, prices in Europe decreased by 2 percent compared to the previous fortnight due to poor buying sentiment and adequate supply.
 
In the US market, propylene prices were assessed at 59-59.40 cents/pound during the week ending August 7, which is an increase compared to average price of 55 cents/pound during the fortnight ending July 31.
