Paraxylene prices drop in global markets last week

Prices of paraxylene, a key raw material for polyester value chain, declined by 0.76 percent in the week ending September 7, 2013, compared to prices during the fortnight ending August 31, in Far East and Southeast Asian countries due to ample supply and dull downstream demand.
 
In Far East Asian market, average PX prices were assessed at US$ 1480/ton last week, while the prices were quoted at US$ 1500-1505/ton in Southeast Asian markets, including Taiwan. 
 
In US market, PX prices fell by US$ 10/ton last week to US$ 1450/ton, down 0.6 percent compared to fortnight ending August 31.
 
In Europe, PX prices declined by 0.46 percent and were quoted at US$ 1400/ton during the week ending September 7, 2013.
 
Prices of PX have, however, remained stable during the initial half of the current week, and were offered at US$ 1500/ton CFR in Southeast Asian markets and at US$ 1480/ton FOB in Far East Asian markets on September 11, 2013.
