Ethylene prices rise in Asian & European markets last week

Prices of ethylene increased in Asian and European markets during the week ending September 7, 2013, due to higher upstream product prices and tight supply in the region.
 
In Asian markets, ethylene prices surged by 1 to 2 percent during the week over the prices registered during the fortnight ending August 31, and were assessed in the range of US$ 1365-1370/ton in Southeast Asia and were at US$ 1230-1235/ton in Far East Asia.
 
The average prices for the fortnight ending August 31 were in the range of US$ 1215/ton to US$ 1220/ton in the Far East Asian market and in the range of US$ 1340-1345/ton in the Southeast Asian market.
 
In European market, ethylene prices increased by 3.95 percent in the week ending September 7, as compared to fortnight ending August 31, due to higher upstream product prices. Prices were assessed at US$ 1470-1475/ton in the week ending September 7.
 
In US markets, however, ethylene prices decreased by 2.73 percent in the week ending September 7 and dropped to 54 cents/lb.
 
Ethylene prices, however, did not change much during the initial days of the current week and were quoted at US$ 1375/ton in Southeast Asian markets and US$ 1240/ton in Far East Asian markets on September 11, 2013.
