Propylene prices showed mixed trend in Asian markets last fortnight ending September 30, 2013, whereas they rose in Europe and declined in the US market.

In Far East Asian markets, average Propylene selling prices were in the range of US$ 1390-1395/ton in the fortnight ending September 30, which declined by 0.71 to 0.77 percent compared to US$ 1400-1405/ton in the fortnight ending September 15. The decline was mainly due to quiet buying interest in the region because of mid-Autumn festival holidays in China, Taiwan and South Korea. On October 3, prices were assessed at US$ 1375-1385/ton.

In Southeast Asian markets and India, average Propylene prices during fortnight ending September 30 were in the range of US$ 1410-1420/ton, up 4.10 percent to 4.53 percent over prices of US$ 1355-1360/ton prevailing a fortnight earlier. The rise in prices was due to surge in upstream energy values. On October 3, prices were assessed at US4 1430/ton.

In Europe, average Propylene prices were € 1110-1115/ton during the fortnight ending September 30, showing a rise of 1.51 percent over prices of around € 1095/ton observed a fortnight earlier. Tight product availability pushed up the prices.

In the US, Propylene prices fell due to dull buying sentiment and were offered at 57 cents/pound in the fortnight ending September 30.
