PET SD chips price dips sharply on year in Northeast Asia

In Northeast Asia, the average price of semi-dull (SD) polyester (PET) chips decreased to US$ 1,215/ton in October 2013, showing a sharp decline of 7.25 percent over average price of US$ 1,310/ton registered during the same month last year.
 
In October 2013, PET SD chips prices fell from US$ 1,225/ton in the beginning of the month to US$ 1,205/ton by the end of the month, showing a fall of 1.63 percent.
 
PET chips prices decreased in Asia in the fortnight ending October 31, due to subdued demand from the downstream market.
 
Prices of Bottle-grade chips were assessed at US$ 1,345/ton in Northeast Asia last fortnight ending October 31, which was lower by 2.18 percent compared to the previous fortnight.
 
In the Chinese domestic market, the average price of SD chips was around RMB 9,100/ton and of super bright chips was around RMB 9,225/ton, in the first half of last fortnight ending October 31, while CDP chip prices was around RMB 10,525/ton.
 
In the second half of last fortnight, the average price of SD chips was around RMB 9,000/ton and of super bright chips was around RMB 9,100/ton, while that of CDP chip prices was around RMB 10,500/ton.
 
In Europe, contract prices of PET bottle grade chips declined to € 1325/ton FD NWE and spot prices were witnessed at € 1180/ton FD NWE mark in the first half of the last fortnight ending October 31. The decline in prices was due to sluggish regional buying sentiments and weaker feedstock market.
 
During the second half of the fortnight, contract prices of PET bottle grade chips dropped to € 1315/ton FD NWE mark, while spot prices were assessed at € 1175/ton FD NWE mark. The price declined due to bearish market sentiments coupled with weak feedstock prices.
