Samsung Petrochemical, which constructed South Korea’s first purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant in 1980, is likely to take 2 PTA plants off-stream for maintenance turnaround.

“The No.1 and No.3 PTA plants are likely to be taken off-stream for maintenance in June 2014 for a period of one week or less,” a company official told fibre2fashion.

The No.1 PTA plant at Ulsan has a production capacity of 400,000 mt/year, while the No.3 PTA plant, also at Ulsan, has a production capacity of 450,000 mt/year.

The Ulsan Petrochemical Complex of Samsung, spread over 165,000 sq m of area, is capable of producing 1,300,000 tons of PTA annually, according to the company’s website.
