The average price of acrylonitrile (ACN) increased in Asian and the US markets in the last fortnight ending December 31, 2013, compared to the average price in the previous fortnight ending December 15.

The increase in ACN price in Asia was due to tight supply, whereas in the US it was due to firm upstream energy value coupled with gains witnessed in ACN values in Asian markets. However, ACN price remained stable in European markets due to mute buying sentiments in the last fortnight ending December 31.

In S E Asia, average ACN price in December 2013 was US$ 1805/ton, up 1.33 percent compared to the average price of US$ 1780/ton in December 2012, but down 1.69 percent compared to November 2013.

In S E Asia and F E Asia markets, the average ACN price was US$ 1810/ton in the fortnight ending December 31, 2013, showing an increase of 0.56 percent compared to the average price of US$ 1800/ton in the previous fortnight ending December 15, 2013. On January 3, 2014, ACN prices were assessed at US$ 1810/ton in both the markets.

In the Chinese domestic market, selling offers for ACN increased by RMB 150/ton and were assessed in the range of RMB 12,750/ton to RMB 12,800/ton in the first half of the last fortnight, while prices remained stable in the second half of the last fortnight.

In US, average ACN price increased by 0.61 percent to US$ 1660/ton in the last fortnight, as against the previous fortnight’s average price of US$ 1650/ton.

In Europe, average price of ACN remained stable at US$ 1765/ton in the last fortnight.
