Benzene prices inch up globally last fortnight

Benzene prices in global markets increased in the last fortnight ending December 31, 2013 compared to the previous fortnight ending December 15, 2013, due to robust buying sentiments coupled with firm upstream energy value and tight product availability.
 
In Korean market, the average price of benzene in December 2013 was US$ 1335/ton, which was a decrease of 8.56 percent compared to the average price of US$ 1460/ton in December 2012.
 
In the last fortnight ending December 31, the average price of benzene was US$ 1345/ton, up 1.13 percent compared to the average price of US$ 1330/ton in the previous fortnight ending December 15.
 
In the F E Asian and S E Asian markets, benzene prices were assessed in the range of US$ 1345/ton to US$ 1350/ton in the last fortnight ending December 31, which were 0.75 percent to 1.13 percent higher compared to the previous fortnight. On January 8, 2014, benzene prices were assessed at US$ 1340-1350/ton in the F E and S E Asian markets.
 
In the Chinese domestic market, selling offers for benzene were in the range of RMB 9,200/ton to RMB 9,300/ton, in the first half of the last fortnight.
 
In Europe, the average price of benzene rose by 0.73 percent to US$ 1385/ton in the last fortnight, as against the average price of US$ 1375/ton in the previous fortnight. On January 7, 2014, benzene price was assessed at US$ 1380/ton.
 
In US, the average price of benzene was assessed at 480 cents/gallon in the last fortnight, which was 4.35 percent higher compared to the average price of 460 cents/gallon in the previous fortnight.
