Propylene prices dip in Asia last fortnight; up in Europe

The prices of propylene decreased in Asian markets in the last fortnight ending January 31, 2014, compared to the fortnight ending January 15, due to weak buying sentiments coupled with poor downstream demands, whereas they increased in Europe due to tight availability of product.
 
In Korean market, the average price of propylene in January 2014 was US$ 1400/ton, which was an increase of 9.61 percent over the average price of $1275/ton in January 2013.
 
However, the average price of propylene in the second fortnight of January 2014 decreased by 5.57 percent to $ 1360/ton from the average price of $1440/ton in the first fortnight of the month. On February 7, 2014, propylene price was assessed at $1405/ton.
 
In Far East Asia, the average price of propylene in the last fortnight was $1405/ton, showing a decline of 2.09 percent compared to the previous fortnight’s average price of 1435/ton.
 
In Southeast Asia, the average price of propylene in the last fortnight decreased by 1.81 percent to $1360/ton compared to the average price of $1385/ton in the previous fortnight. On February 7, 2014, propylene price was assessed at $1335/ton.
 
In Europe, propylene price increased by 2.26 percent in the last fortnight to €1130/ton vis-à-vis the average price of €1105/ton in the previous fortnight.
 
In the US market, propylene price was steady at 63.5 cents/pound in the last fortnight, due to mute buying sentiments.
