The prices of acrylonitrile (ACN) surged up in global markets during the last fortnight ending January 31, 2014, compared to the previous fortnight ending January 15.

In Asian markets, acrylonitrile prices increased due to limited product availability coupled with firm feedstock prices.

In Southeast Asia, the average price of acrylonitrile in January 2014 was US$ 1915/ton, which was an increase of 1.93 percent over the average price of $1880/ton recorded in the corresponding month of last year. On a month-on-month basis, the acrylonitrile price increase was 6.15 percent.

In Far East Asia, too, acrylonitrile prices showed a trend similar to Southeast Asian markets, and on February 8, 2014, ACN prices were assessed at $2000/ton in both Southeast and Far East Asian markets.

In the US market, acrylonitrile prices inched up by 1.89 percent in the last fortnight to $1885/ton, as compared to $1850/ton in the previous fortnight, due to firm energy market.

In Europe, ACN price rose 2.72 percent in the last fortnight due to limited product availability. The average price of ACN in the last fortnight increased to $1885/ton, vis-à-vis $1835/ton in the previous fortnight.
