Ethylene prices show down trend in global markets

The prices of ethylene showed down trend in Asian, European and the US markets in the last fortnight ending February 15, 2014, compared to the previous fortnight ending January 31, 2014.
 
In Asia, ethylene prices decreased in the last fortnight due to bearish buying trends coupled with poor upstream energy value.
 
In Japan, the average price of ethylene in the last fortnight was US$ 1380/ton, up 2.22 percent over the average price of $1350/ton recorded during the corresponding period of the last year.
 
The $1380/ton average price in the last fortnight was a decrease of 2.47 percent compared to the average price of $1415/ton in the previous fortnight. On February 19, 2014, ethylene price was assessed at $1380/ton.
 
In Far East and Southeast Asia, the average price of ethylene decreased by 2.78 percent to $1400/ton in the last fortnight, as against the average price of $1440/ton in the previous fortnight. On February 19, ethylene prices were assessed at $1400/ton.
 
In European market, selling offers for ethylene declined due to ample product availability in the region. Average price declined by 5.04 percent to $1225/ton in the last fortnight, as compared to $1290/ton in the previous fortnight. On February 18, price was assessed at $1215/ton.
 
In US, average price plunged by 11.11 percent to 52.00 cents/pound vis-à-vis 58.50 cents/pound in the previous fortnight, due to high product inventory in the region.
