Taiwan-based Nan Ya Plastics Corporation is likely to restart its No. 4 monoethylene glycol (MEG) line in mid-March this year.

“Owing to technical issues, the No. 4 MEG line was shut on February 28, 2014, and is expected to be restarted in mid-March 2014,” a company official told fibre2fashion.

“We shall try to restart the line as soon as possible because inventory is low,” the official further informed.

The MEG plant located in Mai-Liao has four lines. Line Nos 1, 2 and 3 each have a capacity of 360,000 tons per annum, while Line No. 4 has a capacity of 720,000 tons per annum.

The other 3 lines are currently operating at above 90 percent capacity levels, according to the official.

The next maintenance schedule for the MEG lines is not yet decided by the company.

MEG is the most widely used chemical from the glycol family. It is an essential raw material for polyester fibres and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) polymer.
