Ethylene prices decline in Asia & Europe last fortnight

The prices of ethylene declined in Asian and European markets in the last fortnight ending March 31, 2014, compared to the previous fortnight March 1-15, 2014.
 
In Asian markets, the prices of ethylene decreased due to sluggish buying sentiments coupled with subdued demand from downstream players.
 
In Far East Asia, average price of ethylene dropped by 2.44% to US$ 1400/ton in the last fortnight, as compared to the average price of $1435/ton in the previous fortnight.
 
In Southeast Asia, the average price of ethylene was assessed at US$ 1440/ton in the last fortnight, which was 1.03 percent lower vis-à-vis the average price of $1455/ton recorded in the previous fortnight. On April 5, ethylene price was assessed at US$ 1430/ton.
 
However, in Japan, the average price of ethylene moved up by 2.02 percent to $1415/ton in March 2014, compared to the average price of $1385/ton in February 2014.
 
In European market, selling offers for ethylene declined in the last fortnight due to weak upstream energy value coupled with dull demand in the region. The average price in the last fortnight was $1220/ton, down 2.01 percent compared to the average price of $1245/ton in the previous fortnight. On April 4, 2014 ethylene price was assessed at $1180/ton.
 
In the US market, ethylene prices were stable at 52.5 cents/pound in the last fortnight.
