The prices of paraxylene (PX) increased in Asian markets in the last fortnight ending April 15, 2014, compared to the earlier fortnight ending March 31, because of robust support from upstream and downstream demand coupled with bullish buying interest in the region.

In Far East Asia, the average price of PX in the last fortnight was US$ 1200/ton, which was 2.13 percent higher than the previous fortnight’s average price of $1175/ton.

In Southeast Asia, the average price of PX in the last fortnight was $1220/ton, up 2.09 percent over previous fortnight’s average price of $1195/ton. On April 19, PX price was assessed at US$ 1210/ton.

In European market, however, PX prices declined because of weak downstream demand coupled with poor regional buying sentiments. The average PX price in the last fortnight declined by 1.33 percent to $1110/ton, vis-à-vis the average price of $1125/ton in the previous fortnight. On April 18, price was assessed at $1105/ton.

In US, average price was stable at $1170/ton in the last fortnight.
