The prices of ethylene showed mixed trend in global markets in the last fortnight ending April 15, 2014, compared to the prices in the previous fortnight ending March 31.

In Far East Asia and Europe, the prices of ethylene decreased in the last fortnight, while the prices increased in Southeast Asia and stayed stable in the US.

In Far East Asia, the average price of ethylene dipped by 2.14 percent to US$ 1370/ton in the last fortnight, compared to the average price of $1400/ton in the previous fortnight, due to poor buying sentiments.

On the other hand, in Southeast Asia, the average price of ethylene moved up marginally by 0.35 percent to $1445/ton in the last fortnight, vis-à-vis the average price of $1440/ton in the previous fortnight, due to firm buying sentiments coupled with improved downstream demand.

In Europe, the average price of ethylene declined by 3.28 percent to $1180/ton in the last fortnight, compared to the average price of $1220/ton in the previous fortnight, because of sufficient product availability.

In the US, buying sentiments were mute and average ethylene price in the last fortnight was 52.50 cents/pound, the same as the average price recorded in the previous fortnight.
