Taiwan-based Nan Ya Plastics Corporation is likely to restart its No. 3 monoethylene glycol (MEG) line soon.

“The No.3 MEG line was shutdown unexpectedly one week ago due to some technical issues, and it is expected to be restarted in 4-5 days,” a company official told fibre2fashion.

The MEG plant located in Mai-Liao has four lines. Line Nos 1, 2 and 3 each have a capacity of 360,000 tons per annum, while Line No. 4 has a capacity of 720,000 tons per annum.

When asked about the maintenance schedule, the official informed that it would start from August 2014 onwards, and maintenance turnaround at each line would last for 30-40 days.

“The maintenance turnaround for Line No. 2 should start in August 2014, followed by turnaround at Line Nos 4, 1 and 3 respectively in September, October and November. The schedule for different lines can overlap,” the official said.

MEG is the most widely used chemical from the glycol family. It is an essential raw material for polyester fibres and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) polymer.
